[ayso45-refs] [ayso45-coaches] U8G - slide tackling

To avoid all the needless e-mails and considering this
is the second season in a row that this issue has been
brought up, I'd suggest adding this an agenda item for
the preseason meeting.

That way everyone can have the same understanding of
the rule.

I will have to say I am shocked about the penalty rule
mentioned by two people. I'm glad this has not come
up in any of the games I have coached. If it did, I
would have had a major issue with the call. We just
can not, I mean "can not," make up the rules as we go
along. This teaches the kids nothing (I will admit I
am wrong in my comments if someone can show me the law
that states the direct and indirect kick comment that
one ref has decided is the new law for U8 and U10
since no one seemed to find the same rule last year
when this issue was raised).

Overall, I really think we need to realize the ages of
the kids before we make our comments. Kids do the
strangest things that we, as coaches, have absolutely
no control over. So, in reality, no one really cares
about our experience playing the game, what we need to
focus on is the age of the kids and what should be
expected of them at their age.

Keep in mind that I would suspect that the kids who
slide tackle or try to slide tackle have older
siblings.

Just one persons thoughts and frustrations.

Jim

PS - For the record, I do not teach slide tackling for
my U10 team and I have in the past asked the other
coach that the kids not slide tackle as well.
