[ayso45-refs] U12/U14 Area Tournament Results

Coaches and referees,

Some of you are interested in how our Region 45 teams fared in the Area 
2A post-season tournaments.  Overall, an excellent weekend of soccer. 
Region 45 teams advanced to the semifinals and finals in three of the 
four tournaments. Congratulations to all the tournament teams and a 
special '/good luck/' to the U12B Black Attack as they move on to the 
Section 2 tournament!

Thanks everyone for a great fall 2007 soccer season. Looking forward to 
seeing many of you on the pitch again next season. In the meantime, have 
a very happy holiday season!

_*U14B Final Standings:*_

            (1) Portola Valley #1 - Fat Kids
            (2) Mountain View #1 - Red Whoppers
            (3) Mountain View #2 - The Blues
            (4) Portola Valley #2 - Mud Dogs

Two region 45 teams won their Saturday brackets and advanced to the 
Sunday semifinals. In a rematch of the 2006 tournament, the semifinal 
matches were Portola Valley #1 vs. Mountain View #2 Blues, and Mountain 
View #1 Red Whoppers vs. Portola Valley #2. Both matches were very close 
(2-1 in favor of PV#1, and 1-0 in overtime in favor of MV#1). The Red 
Whoppers advanced to the championship round, but could not quite 
overcome the Portola Valley #1 combination of strong attack and solid 
defense, losing 2-1 in a fight to the final whistel.  The Blues took 
third place with a 6-0 win over the Mud Dogs.

_*U14G Final Standings:*_

            (1) Palo Alto Blasters
            (2) Palo Alto Ultra Violets
            (3) Menlo Park Fusion
            (4) Mountain View Red Vines

One region 45 team, the Red Vines, won its Saturday bracket with 27 
points, tied for first in the standings with the Palo Alto Ultra 
Violets. In semifinal match between those two teams on Sunday, the Red 
Vines came out on the short side of the score.  (More details, anyone?  
Nothing is posted on the Region 109 website about Sunday results.)

_*U12B Final Standings:*_

            (1) Mountain View #1 - Black Attack
            (2) Mountain View #2 - Rapids
            (3) Sunnyvale #? - Flaming Hot Cheetos
            (4) Los Altos #? - The Irish

The Teal Terminators (MV#3)  tied for first in their bracket, but lost 
to the Flaming Red Cheetos (Sunnyvale - Region 44) on a tie-breaker 
rule: number of goals allowed.  Those two teams drew 2-2 in their 
Saturday match. A very close bracket.
 
The Maroooon Typhoooon came in second in their bracket, losing only one 
game to the eventual bracket winner, The Irish (Los Altos - Region 43).

The semifinal games were exciting.  The Rapids beat The Irish 2-1 in 
overtime in the first game. The Black Attack and the Flaming Hot Cheetos 
fought to a 0-0 tie after regulation and overtime. The Black Attack 
outscored the Flaming Hot Cheetos 4-3 in the shootout.

This put the two Mountain View teams into the finals, where the Black 
Attack defeated the Rapids 1-0.
The Flaming Hot Cheetos beat The Irish 1-0 for 3rd place in the 
consolation round.

Four extremely close matches among four well-matched and competitive 
teams.  Great soccer!

_*U12G Final Standings:

*_U12G Tournament results have not been posted on the Region 44 
website.  None of the Region 45 U12G teams advanced to the semifinal 
round in the U12G tournament.
