[ayso45-refs] Free Kicks

In U8, there was only one kind of free kicks awarded for a foul, a free
kick. In U9 and above there are three types, Direct Free Kicks, Indirect
Free Kicks, and Penalty Kicks.
An Indirect Free kick awarded to the attacking team within the defending
team's goal area, is taken from the point on the Goal Area line (6 yard
line) direct out from the point of the foul. The most common fouls are
Dangerous Play, and various Goalkeeper offenses.
A foul with in the Penalty Area that would otherwise result in a Direct Free
Kick (the 10 "major" fouls like holding, kicking, tripping, ...,
Deliberate Handling (except by the GK), is a Penalty Kick taken from the
Penalty Mark. Thus there are no Direct Free Kicks inside the Goal Area
being that the Goal Area is inside the Penalty Area.
Indirect or Direct free kicks awarded to the Defending team inside their
Goal Area are treated in the same manner as a Goal Kick; it can be taken
from anywhere in the Goal Area. Indirect or Direct free kicks awarded
to the Defending team inside their Penalty Area are taken from the spot of
the foul but, like the above, must leave the Penalty Area before it is in
play.
If you indeed saw a direct free kick awarded to the attacking team taken
from in side the other team's goal area, it was a major procedural error on
part of the Referee.

Subject: [ayso45-refs] Free Kicks
Greetings Ref's:
I referred U7B and U8B. I am now helping to coach U9B.
For U7 & U8 I recall that Free Kicks awarded to the attacking team inside
the defending team's goal area were to be taken ON (from) the goal line (at
the nearest point to the infraction of the line in front of the goal).
Is this the law (no free kicks inside the goal area) for U9 in AYSO 45? If
not what is our law?
My question arise as a couple of weekend a couple games back I saw a direct
free kick taken from the point of infraction inside the goal area.
I received my original training at Palo Alto AYSO Region 26, and (at least
in 2003) for U7-U9 all free kicks were in-direct. This seems like a good
way to go to me.
Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
