Coach Training

In compliance with AYSO’s National Coaching Program, AYSO Region 45 offers a number of Coach Training Courses during the month of August.  Training at the level appropriate to the team you are coaching is required for all head and assistant coaches. The expectation is that from U6 to U16, coaches will attend a coach certification training once every 2 years. Required certification levels are: U6, U8, U10, U12, Intermediate (U14), and Advanced (U16 and U19).

The only pre-requisite for the U-6, U-8, U-10 and U-12 Coach Certification courses is to be Safe Haven for Coach certified. The Intermediate Coach Certification course requires U-12 certification as a pre-requisite and the Advanced Coach Certification course requires Intermediate Coach Certification.

Please Pre-Register for the course you plan to attend.

1) Go to aysou.org and use the same log in information you used for Blue Sombrero (when you registered your child for AYSO for this coming fall).  If that doesn’t work, go back to the Blue Sombrero website and try to log in there to figure it out, and reset passwords, etc. as necessary.

2)  If you have already successfully enrolled your child and yourself as a volunteer for this coming fall, click on the link for those who have already registered as a volunteer.

3)  Look under the tab “MY COURSES” and “Live Courses” to find classes. The AYSOU interface to search for classes is much different (and currently more primitive) than the old eayso.  Pay attention to find classes offered in Mountain View.

4) One advantage in AYSOU is that both online classes (e.g. Safe Have, concussion training, etc) and classroom registration (U8, U10, etc) are now under one system.

5)  If you need concussion training, see if the concussion training is available there.

6)  If the aysou links don’t work for concussion training, try this link to just take the Concussion training straight from the CDC website.  Just print off your certificate at the end.  I am sure there is a way to update your stuff online on our end.  HOWEVER, if you use the AYSOU link, then it will update your AYSO training records automatically after you complete this class.

Please be patient as AYSO improves this new system and let me know if you have any problems.

All Area 2A and most Region 45 sponsored coach training sessions are open to any AYSO coach from any region who wishes to attend.  The coach training offered in August 2017 is in conjunction with our annual Coaches’ Meeting and will be limited to Region 45 coaches.

Training Courses Outside of Region 45

Other nearby Regions and Areas also offer training. Please follow their instructions and RSVP so that they know the quantity of training material to order. Please remember that you are a guest when you take training in their region/area.

2017 Coach Course Search Examples

To search for upcoming courses in the local area in aysou, list out all courses using My Courses -> Instructor Led -> <level>.  Then use the browser search on the result and search for ” 2/” (note the space).  This will help you find all Section 2 courses and most are within CA.  Please visit course search examples  for further instructions and example results for AYSOU.

On-Line Training Opportunities

On-line training is available for U-8 and U-10. Although not a substitute for the experience gained by taking the courses in person, the U-8 coach on-line course satisfies the requirement for being U-8 Coach Certified. The U-10 course requires a field portion to finish the certification process which is not currently offered stand-alone.

  • You must have your BlueSombrero ID in order to sign into the online class. You can view this by logging into BlueSombrero.
  • Visit aysou.org, BlueSombrero’s online certification and training site.
  • Choose the course you wish to take.
  • When complete, print out the certificate of completion and save it in your files.

Advanced Coach Training at Golden Gate Camp

Coaches who have Intermediate Coach Certification are encouraged to attend the Advanced Coach Certification at AYSO Section 2’s Golden Gate Camp. This is a two-and-a half day residential clinic at Menlo College in Atherton for coaches of U16 and U19 teams. The dates are August 4th through 6th. Register at the Section 2 site.

Coach Training Policy for Tournaments

AYSO National’s coach certification / training policy requires all coaches and assistant coaches who wish to coach in the National Games, concurrent secondary play competitions or nationally sanctioned AYSO tournaments to be trained at the level of the team they coach. The impact on this for Region 45 is that achieving these levels of training will is required. U12 and U14 teams which are coached by coaches that are not certified may not be eligible to participate in the Area 2A tournament should they qualify.  The coaches that are not certified will NOT be coaching teams in these events.
